I know the thought of lifting weights for some women is intimidating and scary. Most women are worried they will get too “bulky”, or some are just discouraged because they don’t know how to perform the movements. They are in the mindset of it being a man's world, and that is just wrong. If you're worried about getting “bulky” or have no clue where to start, then you should try and find a trainer to help you. If that isn’t an option you can always use the internet, that's how i started.
Lifting weights can do amazing things to a woman's body. You should give it a try!
Here are some great reasons why:
Higher bone density, increased basal metabolism, more efficient circulatory and respiratory systems, improved muscular strength and fat burning.
Bone Density
As a woman we tend to have smaller and lighter bones than our counterpart, men. Having low bone density means it's easier to break and leads to osteoporosis. As a woman you'll eventually go through menopause which will cause hormonal imbalances. This will increase your risk of getting osteoporosis, but if you strength train you're able to build up your bone density and lower the likelihood of getting osteoporosis
Boost Metabolism
When you strength train it can affect your hormone levels and metabolism. Women who engage in a long term Strength training program produce more growth hormone. This hormone allows the body to improve metabolic functions while also building muscle. Also muscle burns calories and the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn.
Improved Muscular Strength
Your muscle mass diminished with age, but you can fight this through strength training. Strength training will help maintain and increase your muscle mass, regardless of your age. As a woman it will be a little more difficult to build muscle mass and strength because of our natural lower baseline muscle mass. You may be asking why is it important to gain muscular strength? Not only do you want to build muscular strength to be stronger, it can also help you slim down, change your body composition, tone up and create curves!
Fat Burning
Adding strength training into your routine is one of the quickest ways to lose fat! According to this study women on average store 6-11% more body fat than that of men. This means that women have to work harder than men to lose fat off our bodies. Strength training will help you build more muscle, which in turn will burn more fat. You can replace that fat with muscle.
